Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare has been making a few waves as a means of getting back into the esports scene. This especially comes amid the possible excitement of the rumored 2017 edition of the game going back to basic. But until then, Activision is releasing a series of new maps for CoD:IW in a new set called Continuum.
The company has also released details on one rather unique map for the future that may not only be a big name map but also offers some star power. The maps are expected to be welcome additions to esports events although it’s unclear as to how long people will be talking about them as the newer CoD game will be coming later in the year.
Four New Maps
There are four maps in particular that are being promoted in this set. These maps feature a variety of points that make them stand out.
The Turista map is a spa resort map which is set inside the old body of a giant sea creature.
The Scrap map is on an old Moonbase junkyard and will have some features similar to older maps from that series.
The Archive move takes place in an art gallery. It appears to have a futuristic setting to it.
The Excess map is designed as a smaller version of the Rust map from Modern Warfare 2. It is not fully certain as it what specific features are to be included on that particular map though.
The features in these maps are expected to make for an entertaining way for people to enjoy playing. The maps are expected to be used in future esports events.
A Special Zombie Map
Activision also released information on an upcoming new map that is expected to bring in some rather unique features into the esports world. The Shaolin Shuffle Zombies map is expected to be released in the future. The company behind it released a trailer promoting that map.
The Zombies map is expected to be set in a 1970s New York disco club. Judging by this description, it is expected to come with plenty of close quarters combat. Even so, the zombie attack features will make for a challenge for many esports teams to look forward to being in.
The map will also feature plenty of stars who will offer their voices and even motion capture features into the game. Among the stars who will participate include Pam Grier, Seth Green, Paul “Pee-Wee Herman” Reubens and Saturday Night Live stars Jay Pharoah and Sasheer Zamata.
When Will Everything Be Released?
The maps will be released in mid-April on the PlayStation 4 console. It will then go onto the other major platforms in accordance with Activision and Sony’s exclusivity deal. It is expected that the maps will be introduced onto different esports competitions not long after that. How long they will be highlighted at those tournaments is unclear though. This especially comes as the excitement over the World War II-set 2017 edition of Call of Duty continues to develop and spread.
