TnC Gaming eSports Team Profile
|
Esports is not that popular in the Philippines but that started to change after several teams from this country managed to secure participation in some of the world’s biggest eSports tournaments. Since then, increasing number of young players are becoming professionals and more and more teams are being launched. However, the first team that broke the ice when it comes to eSports in the Philippines was a team called TnC Pro Team.
This eSports organization has gone through some thick and thin to reach their current status. At one point in their history they were very close to shutting down completely and if that happened, the consequences for the eSports in the Philippines would be devastating. Luckily, it did not come to that and TnC Gaming or TnC Pro Team survived up to this day.
Their results might not have been that great when compared to some other teams in the eSports competitions but considering the platform that they have, their results have been amazing up to this moment. However, many experts expect that this team is yet to achieve their best results in the years to come.
TnC Pro Team History
The announcement of the TnC Pro Team launch came in 2013. At that moment, the new eSports organization decided to host teams in several competitions including Dota 2, Dota, as well as League of Legends teams. This, however, turned out to be very problematic for this organization as they could not carry out all the teams. This was just a rookie mistake that almost all new eSports organization go through.
They believed that it was the best to start immediately with the teams in different competitions but they did not realize that it takes a lot of effort, devotion, and financial means to run those kinds of operations. Because of that, on May 2013, after failing to achieve any important results, team management decided that they will be releasing all the players from all of their teams.
At that moment, it seemed like a drastic move to make. However, the team management realized that they have made a mistake when they had launched their organization. Because of that, dropping all division was a way for TnC Pro Team to start everything from the scratch once again. However, TnC went dormant for more than three years.
In 2015, the announcement came that TnC will be making a comeback in Dota 2 competitions. In February of that year, TnC came out with the news about their roster in which they introduced their new Dota 2 team. None of the players that who had played for TnC before the team called it quits returned for their new team. Instead, the completely new squad was brought in.
However, the bliss did not last long because, in August the same year, one of their players, Jhonel ‘Seven’ Jay Maguddayao announced that they will be leaving the team. However, that was not the end of their troubles. Around the same time, their other player, John Linuel ‘Teehee’ Abanto decided to step down from the team in order to focus on his study.
Immediately, the replacement was brought in and Raven was brought in the team as a replacement for seven. When it comes to the Teehee replacement, it turned out that they did not have to look for it because only two months after saying farewell to Dota 2 and TnC, Teehee returned to competitive play and in the team. With his return, TnC’s roster has been completed and they could focus on preparations for the tournament.
During 2016, several players left the team while others were brought in. However, in August, TnC decided to release all the players from the team except eyyou because of the bad performances. However, only two days after making that announcement, eyyou decided that he, too, will be leaving the team.
After ten or more days being in a limbo when it comes to their Dota 2 team, TnC announced their new Dota 2 lineup. This time, Sam_H joined the team first. Soon after him, it was confirmed that Kuku will be making yet another comeback to the team together with Teehee, Cast, and ryOyr. But Teehee and Cast will stay on that roster only two months and they will eventually be replaced by Raven and Tims.
TnC had a lot of problems when it comes to their roster during the last three years. However, it seems that 2017 has been much more stable than any before. This year, they have made only one change in the roster when ryOyr left the team and 1437 joined the team. The lack of capacity to hold on to a roster for a longer period of time has caused a lot of problems for TnC which influenced their performances in the competitions. Despite that, they still managed to achieve very good results which show how good this team truly is.
Achievements so Far
During their first year in the eSports, TnC did not have any results that are worth mentioning but that was the period when the organization was being launched. However, after the resurrection of their Dota 2 team, things changed when it comes to those results. During their first year in the competition (2015), TnC managed to win several titles including Corsair Gaming Arena 2, Corsair Gaming Arena 3 as well as SEA Dragon Battle Season 3. However, those were all minor tournaments.
However, their biggest success would come one year later when they managed to secure their spot in the biggest Dota 2 tournament, The International 2016. They were complete underdogs in that tournament and they finished the group stage with the record of seven wins and seven defeats. Despite that, they still managed to secure their spot in the playoffs where they faced Vici Gaming Reborn in the first round.
Vici Gaming was lacking their best player at that time and TnC managed to use that for their benefit and eliminate Vici Gaming from the competition. When they found out their opponent in the next round of the playoffs, everybody believed that their journey has come to an end because they were to face OG, two-time major champions. However, that did not impress TnC much.
They won the first game and in the second game they had almost 20,000 gold less than OG but that did not prevent them from eliminating OG from the competition. Today, that match is considered to be one of the biggest upsets in Dota 2 history. Their journey at The International 2016 finished in the next round when they were eliminated by Digital Chaos, they were still more than satisfied with the tournament as they won $500,000. This result remains to this day their best achievements in their history.
Their most recent big result happened at WESG 2016 LAN Finals that were played in China. In the final of that tournament, TnC Pro Team faced Cloud9 and won the trophy and a huge prize pool of $800,000.
Current Roster
Currently, TnC’s Dota 2 roster features Theeban ‘1437’ Silva as the team captain. Besides him, the team also featured ‘Raven’ Luis Fausto, Samson ‘Sam_H’ Enojosa Hidalgo, Carlo ‘Kuku’ Palad, and Timothy Randrup aka ‘Tims’.
This was the lineup that defeated Cloud9 for their first trophy this year. Even though 2017 did not feature a lot of trophies for this team, they can still say that this has been one of their most successful years so far in eSports. This lineup will also have the opportunity to improve the result that the team had in the last year’s International because they secured their spot in The International 7.
TnC will be under pressure to perform well. While still many are not counting them as serious contenders for high places, TnC already proved that they can match the game of the best Dota 2 teams in the world. With a little bit of luck, TnC will be able to go far in this tournament.
Total Prize Money Won
TnC Gaming or TnC Pro Team has not participated in many tournaments since they reappeared in 2015 – only 17. Considering the number of tournaments, their total earnings seems to be very good. In total, they have earned $1,483,50.30 in those tournaments. When it comes to the players who won the most money while playing for TnC, Solomon ‘Sam_H’ Enojosa Hidalgo with $300,522 is on the top of the list.
However, this should not be seen as their only earning in eSports. eSports organizations are making significant amounts of money by signing sponsorship deals with many companies. In almost all cases, the true worth of those contracts is never publicly announced. Because of that, the earnings of TnC Pro Team are without a doubt much bigger than the amount that was mentioned. The main reason for that is the fact that TnC Pro Team currently has signed sponsorship deals with TheNet.com, NIU Game, DXRacer, Twitch, Predator and several other companies.
