Major

During the last couple of days, teams from all over the world competed in the qualifying rounds for the Kiev Major that will be held from April 27th to April 30th this year. When it comes to this year’s Kiev Major qualifying rounds, it needs to be said that the format of the competition largely remained the same as for the Valve events.
However, there was one change in comparison to the last year’s qualifications. This year, CIS and South American Regional Qualifiers have been created, and that significantly influenced the number of teams that would qualify for the Kiev Major from a given region. Because of the introduction of these two regional qualifiers, only China and SEA have remained with the two spots that will lead to the final stages of the Kiev Major.

Eight teams had received a direct invitation

Before the qualifying rounds, it was announced that eight teams had received a direct invitation for this tournament and those eight teams are Wings Gaming, Ex-Ad Finem, Evil Geniuses, Newbe, OG, Team Liquid, Digital Chaos and Team VG.J.

That meant that there were eight spots left to fill for the final stages of this tournament and the fight for those eight places was very tough. After the qualifying round, Team Onyx, Team Secret, iG Vitality, Team Faceless, SG e-sports, Virtus.pro, Invictus Gaming, and TNC Pro Team were the ones who secured their spots at the Kiev Major.

The European region

The European region saw the biggest number of teams to compete in the qualification, and after all the matches, Team Secret was the one booking their tickets for the Kiev Major. Team Secret did not compete at The Boston Major, but they managed to secure their place by losing only one game during all qualifying rounds.

CIS region

The qualifier from the CIS region, Virtus.pro had a similar run. Namely, they were defeated in two games during the group stage, but they later managed to secure their place in Kiev.
Qualifying rounds in the Chinese region were very interesting because they featured two Invictus Gaming teams going against each other in the Winners’ Finals and iG Vitality was successful in that match, as they secured the first spot for Kiev Major.

Other regional qualifications that were very exciting were the ones for the SEA region where Team Faceless and TNC Pro Team managed to secure their places at the Kiev Major. All these teams will be joining those that have received a direct invitation, and it will be interesting to see how the qualifiers will be able to handle those who got the invitations for this tournament.
Even though there is more than a month before the start, there is already huge talk about the event all over the world. One of the reasons for that is the fact that the Kiev Major will feature a massive prize pool and it will see teams competing for the grand total of $3,000,000.

Besides that, the Kiev Major will also be a great opportunity for the fans to see some amazing Dota 2 matches. It’s been a while since a tournament caused so much fuss among the fans.
