Syed “SumaiL” Sumail is a professional eSports player living and playing in the United States. He is currently the mid player in the Evil Geniuses team. SumaiL is most famous for his Dota 2 endeavors and achievements.
Today he is considered one of the leading Dota 2 enthusiasts and professional players of all time.
In this feature we will try to identify all the factors that contributed to his fame, success and achievements. We will try to distinguish what exactly are the facts distancing him from other professional eSports player of the industry. You will be amazed how many factors contribute to his success and what actually makes him one of the best in not just Dota2, but the whole eSports industry in general.
Syed “SumaiL” Sumail Histroy, Early Days and Rise to Fame
SumaiL was born on the 13th of February, 1999 in Pakistan. He eventually moved out and is currently living in the United States. Sumail actually started playing at a record young age of only 8. He is probably one of the youngest professional eSports players known. So, from the start it is not hard to distinguish that SumaiL is not your average Dota 2 player. And not your average eSports player in general when it comes to that.
Once he moved to the United States he immediately was recognized as a very skilled player and outstandingly functional and competitive at such a young age. He started playing in the North American Elite League, immediately securing an elite spot in the North American league.
There is not much known about SumaiL in detail, as he is barely 18 years of age. But that makes for an even crazier story altogether. With such a delicate age he managed to catch the public eye and gain his first entrance to a professional eSports team in his career.
Evil Geniuses were the first ones to take SumaiL fully seriously. They identified him as a young individual with an infinite fountain of knowledge for Dota 2. Something that can most closely be described as a “gift”.
Both Evil Geniuses and SumaiL were sure enough to use that gift to its maximum. So EG invited him to join their ranks. He is currently in Evil Geniuses and he did not change the team since. First because the team is mega successful with him within their ranks. And second – because he probably didn’t have the time to figure a different option. His career is one of the most rapidly rising eSports careers of all time. So far he made no bold decisions of leaving EG and joining another team.
Today, it is safe to say that SumaiL is one of the most famous Dota 2 players out there. Not only the most famous, but the richest, youngest and most enthusiastic player in eSports history. He even once said that if someone told him that he would be eventually able to live out of one of his first loves (Dota 2) he would deem that person absolutely crazy
Most Notable Achievements
The SumaiL win and loss streak is viewed through the lens of the combined endeavors of team Evil Geniuses, his first and current team he is playing for.
The first and most notable achievement SumaiL made with a professional eSports team is in 2015. He won the Dota 2 Asia Championships in Shanghai and The International 2015.
In the meantime they managed to place 1st on the Dota Pit League Season 3, which marked yet another full on victory with Sumail within the ranks of Evil Geniuses. Going further in the year 2015, three third places followed, but on very good championships. They managed to get third place on The Frankfurt Major 2015,
The year 2016 is starting and both EG and SumaiL are nowhere near their end. They started 2016 with another third place on The Shanghai Major 2016 and yet another third place on the International 2016.
October of 2016 was a breaking month for both SumaiL and team Evil Geniuses, as they managed to get the 1st place on the Mars Dota 2 League 2016 Autumn, on the 2nd of October.
November 2016 market a turning point for both SumaiL and Evil Geniuses, as they managed to win the China Top 2016 where they actually made it all the way up to the first place.
Later on in December of 2016 they actually got the 3rd and then 4th place in the Boston Major 2016.
In 2017, at least so far they have managed to place 3rd and then 4th on The Kiev Major 2017 on April 30th.
He is still „firmly“ within the ranks of Evil Geniuses and has no intention to leave just yet. As this team and their management are solely responsible for his rise within the pro eSports industry, SumaiL sees the organization as a „father organization“ in a way. It’s the place where he made his baby steps that led him to his all-out professional eSports career.
Net Worth and Recognition
SumaiL is actually the third highest earning professional eSports player of all time. Having achieved that and still not being 18 years of age is quite the achievement.
His managed to win $ 2,401,426 from 29 different tournaments alone. It goes without saying that what SumaiL possesses is not just sheer skill, it is an all-out gift.
The future definitely looks bright for SumaiL. It is predicted that he is on his way to becoming one of the leading eSports players of all time.
Also, the Guinness Book of World Records decorated SumaiL as the youngest gamer in the history of eSports to win his first $ 1,000,000 while being underage. He was also mentioned in the TIME magazine as being amongst the “30 Most Influential Teens”.
This being said, SumaiL is one of the people responsible for the general mainstream media view-shift on gamers and game fans alike. Usually, mainstream media likes to publish negative articles about gamers. They tell people how addictive games are, how they are very time consuming. They mention how easy it is to ruin your life through gaming. SumaiL and his colleagues of similar age have actually managed to show the world that is not even remotely true.
Seeing how lucrative eSports have become and how the industry has the tendency to support, employ and develop young players, even the mainstream media managed to change its collective mindset over the matter.
Of course we are not referring to “TIMES” magazine in particular, but rather in a more general kind of way. Now it is clearly visible that eSports companies and corporations alike can actually offer an entire career for young people who are enthusiastic with their games. Now they perceive it as something that can move kids away from the streets and drugs, and as something that, if done professionally and in a correctly ambitious kind of way – can eventually make them rich.
