Peter ‘ppd’ Dager came to prominence as a Dota 2 player with Evil Geniuses when he and the rest of the team managed to win the title at The International back in 2015. Ppd would not play a lot of matches after he won the biggest Dota 2 title because he would retire from active play in 2016 when the Evil Geniuses was rebuilt from scratch. Since then, he has been working as CEO of Evil Geniuses organization and he has not played a lot of Dota 2 matches since then.
Ppd was featured as one of the analysts during The International 7 and he did a very good job. Even though he proved to be a very good analyst, that does not seem to satisfy ppd a lot because, in the last couple of days, several reports have been indicating that ppd might be returning to active play.
Life After Retirement
Peter ‘ppd’ Dager is reportedly thinking about stepping down as the CEO of Evil Geniuses in order to play competitive Dota 2 once again. So far, these reports have not been confirmed by either side but sources close to ppd and Evil Geniuses have confirmed this information.
Ppd became Evil Geniuses’ CEO back in December 2016 which happened very soon after he announced his retirement. At that time, Evil Geniuses became a team owned by players. EG was not the only thing that incorporated that kind of restructuring as their sister team Alliance applied the same pattern of reconstruction.
Before these two teams became player-owned, the owner of this organization was GoodGames founded by Alex Garfield. However, in 2014, GoodGames sold Evil Geniuses to Twitch which was the first step that this organization would take towards complete independence.
Since ppd became CEO he has not been very active when it comes to playing matches. One time that he did play competitive Dota 2 was in the Kiev Major qualifiers when he played for WanteD, a North American team. Since then, he was not featured in any official match.
More and more reports are sharing information about ppd’s possible return but so far there are many issues that are still unfamiliar. It is still not known whether ppd would be playing for Evil Geniuses or would he be leaving the organization altogether. Consequently, if ppd steps down from the CEO position, the organization would have to find a new CEO.
Even though ppd has been away from competitive Dota 2, he has been creating Dota 2 content under the flag of Evil Geniuses that he published on the team’s blog or during the podcasts. The fact that ppd might be coming back to active play is truly very exciting for all Dota 2 fans but the main problem is whether or not ppd will be able to return his game to the level he had before he retired.
If ppd decides to come back, it would be almost a year since his last official match and that is a very long time for a professional Dota 2 player to be away from the competition. Because of that, many believe that if that happens, ppd will not be the same player as he was before he retired back in 2015.
