With preseason play for the first season of the Overwatch League starting on December 6 and the official season beginning on January 10, people are looking forward to watching the many great teams that will make up the league. Three teams in particular have released information on what they will be doing for the coming season.
The New York, Dallas and Houston team have been revealed as a part of the lead-up to the season. They are among the twelve teams that will contend in the first season of the Overwatch League.
New York Excelsior
The first of the three teams to discuss is the New York Excelsior. This is a team owned by New York Mets owner Jeff Wilpon. The team’s name comes from the Latin for “upward,” which is also the state motto of New York.
The old LW Blue team from the Apex tournament in Korea is going to play a major role for the Excelsior. Park-Jong Yeol and Yeon-oh Hwang are among the prominent Korean Overwatch stars who will compete in the league. They and a few others from the team will represent South Korea in the upcoming Overwatch World Cup. The team is expected to be one of the top groups in the league.
Team Envy has announced that its Overwatch League team will be the Dallas Fuel. The team has a nine-man roster which is being promoted as being highly flexible. It has the six players who used to be a part of Team Envy including Timo “Taimou” Kettunen and Sebastien “Chipshajen” Widlund. The team has been labeled as one capable of rotating its players well as they can all get into a variety of positions for many competitive purposes.
The Houston Outlaws will feature players from five different countries. Much of the roster from the FNRGFE team will be competing for the Outlaws.
The team is operated by OpTic Gaming. The green and black color scheme for the Outlaws is representative of the original logo color scheme that OpTic had once utilized.
The three teams will be contending with nine others as the season starts in Los Angeles. These nine other teams include the Boston Uprising, the Seoul Dynasty and Shanghai Dragons. These teams have already been announced for the most part although new details on their rosters have been coming about. These include an update over the Shanghai Dragons having players from Vici Gaming and FTD Club among other prominent Chinese esports groups.
Information on teams in Los Angeles, Miami, Philadelphia and London have yet to be announced.
All games will take place in Los Angeles at the Blizzard Arena. There is a potential for the teams to host events in their own cities in the future. It is unclear as to where in New York, Houston or Dallas those teams would host their events at.
All events will also be open for full betting purposes. Odds and lines are expected to be released as the season comes a little closer to its start in January.
