Dota 2 Kuala Lumpur Major: PSG-LGD and Secret Make It to Quarterfinals

The Dota 2 Kuala Lumpur Major is the very first major of the season as well as the sixth PGL’s Major. The event brought together sixteen teams from all over the globe, which are currently competing for their piece of the amazing $1,000,000 USD prize pool. In addition to this prize pool, there are also plenty of DPC points up for grabs for the next big competition which is The International 2019.

Thanks to the collaboration between the ImbaTV and eGG Network, the main event of the Grand Finals will be hosted at the amazing Axiata Arena starting on 16th of November and lasting up to 18th of November when will know which team is the ultimate winner of this Dota 2 Major. There are several sponsors of the event including U Mobile, Intel, Acer Predator, HyperX and KFC Delivery.

When it comes to the format of the competition, it stayed the same as seen before divided into GSL Group Stage and Double Elimination Playoffs. There were fifteen teams in the Group Stage of the competition included through regional qualifiers together with three teams from North America, China, and Europe and two teams from South America, Southeast Asia and CIS. There was also another team which qualified directly as the winner of Dream League Season.

9TH of November Marked the Beginning of Group Stage

The Group Stage of the competition started on 9th of November. There were four groups and each group consisted of four teams. This stage of the competition featured double-elimination bracket which means that top two teams from every group advance to the competition’s Upper Bracket while bottom two teams from every group advance to the competition’s Lower Bracket of the Major’s Main Event.

The competition’s Playoff Stage started on 11th of November and it will last up to 18th of November. It should be noted that only three final days of the competition will be held with a live crowd while other matches can be streamed. The Playoff Stage of the competition featured double-elimination bracket. In the Group Stage of the competition, we have seen Alliance, Team Secret, Ninjas in Pyjamas, Vici Gaming, Gambit Esports, PSG-LGD, Fnatic, Team Aster, Virtus. Pro, TNC Predator, Evil Geniuses, paIN X, J.Storm, Tigers, paIN Gaming and Forward Gaming.

Team Secret and PSG.LGD Dominating Over Vici Gaming and Alliance

In the opening days of the Playoffs Stage, Team Secret took over Vici Gaming recurring its spot in top-eight teams. This match was, in fact, a rematch between the two teams as they already met in the ESL One Hamburg Grand Finals two weeks ago. However, this time, Team Secret was better quickly winning the first match which lasted less than thirty minutes.

Following their route, team PSG.LGD was equally dominating their match against Alliance which was the second match of the competition’s Playoff Stage. In this second match of the Playoffs, PSG.LGD scored an easy victory advancing further by defeating Alliance at 2-0. These two teams can lose one match, but that will not stop them from advancing to the Quarterfinals. When it comes to the other half of this Round Two, Virtus. Pro will meet Ninjas in Pyjamas.

When it comes to the Lower Bracket, we have seen TNC Predator taking over Alliance and there are more exciting matches to come between Forward Gaming and Evil Geniuses and Fnatic between J.Storm.
