Riot Games are definitely one of the most prominent US-based esports tournament organizers and video game developers. The company is based in Los Angeles, California. Since its establishment twelve years ago by Marc Merrill and Brandon Beck, the company has been on the very top of esports and video gaming industry. Riot Games has twenty-four offices all over the globe, employing more than two thousand people.
Despite the rich business background, the biggest achievement of the company thus far its League of Legends game released back in October of 2009. Soon after its release, the game has become Riot Games flagship title as it attracted the highest active player count as of 2013. The company also operates the biggest international League of Legend competitions, including League of Legends World Championship, League of Legends Mid-Season Invitational tournament, and League of Legends Championship Series.
When it comes to the Big East Conference or simply BIG EAST, it is one of those major collegiate conferences which compete in the major NCAA Division in all sports except for football. The Big East Conference has been recognized as a multi-sport Division I conference since August of 2013. The conference is composed of different colleges including Villanova University, St. John’s University, Seton Hall University, Providence College, Marquette University, Georgetown University, DePaul University, and several others.
Back in December of 2012, some of these colleges decided to split from those football-playing schools in favor of focusing on basketball. Not long after, Xavier University, Creighton University, and Butler University decided to join the Big East Conference in July of 2013. When it comes to this latest partnership between the Big East Conference and Riot Games, the very first competition promoting their collaboration will be the Big East League of Legend Championship starting in Spring of 2019.
It should be noted that seven of those Big East Conference schools will participate in the competition. These teams include Villanova, Seton Hall, St. John’s, Providence, Marquette, DePaul and Butler universities. Following that regular League of Legend seasons starting in January 2019, those top four performing teams will gather to compete for their spot in the Big East League of Legends Championship finals. The winner of this competition, as well as the runner-up, will also earn their spot for the League of Legends College Championship Play-In while also having an amazing change to advance to the League of Legends College Championship.
Taking Place During a League of Legend Regular Season
The Big East League of Legends Championship will take place in a regular League of Legends season which starts in January 2019. We are about to see those top four-performing teams compete for the winner’s title. What we know for sure is that the Big East Conference is definitely keen on integrating esports in their efforts and by partnering with Riot Games, they are on the right path to accomplish this goal. The latest Big East partnership is the second one as the BIG EAST has already partnered with ELS back in October of this year.
