Intel Extreme Masters is the very final tournaments of the season before the big World Championship tournament which will take place in Katowice, Poland. This big tournament, in fact, marks the beginning of Inter Extreme Masters’ new North American flagship events taking place in Chicago. The competition features the usual prize pool amounting to $250,000 USD. As usual, there were sixteen teams competing all part of the Intel Grand Slam.
Following the usual route, the competition’s sponsors are NEEDforSEAT, HyperX, Intel, Acer Predator, PaySafeCard, Betway and a few more. The matches between sixteen teams took place at the amazing Wintrust Arena located in Chicago starting on 6th of November. When it comes to the format of the competition, there is a Group Stage which took place from 6th to 8th of November. There were two groups consisted of eight teams. As usual, the group stage is seeded using a Player-Selected Seed.
Those top three teams from every group advanced to the competition’s Playoff stage while group winners advanced to the IEM Semifinals. There were ten invited teams and six qualified teams including Astralis, FaZe Clan, Team Liquid, Mibr, BiG, Mouse Ports, NRG Esports, Renegades Navi, Fnatic, Avangar, North, EUnited, MVP Pk, Team LDLC and Team Luminosity. After amazing matches in the competition’s stages, in the Grand Finals, we have witnessed Astralis and Team Liquid performing an amazing show.
Astralis and Team Liquid Meetin the Grand Finals
In the competition’s first Semifinal group, Astralis faced team Fnatic and showed off some great performance by winning the opening map Dust2 by 16-14. The team also was better at halftime by 12-3. Soon enough, Fnatic recovered by winning Mirage by 16-12 moving closer to the Grand Finals by sending the entire match to a greatly decisive battle which took place on Inferno.Advertisement
However, the team was unable to hold on to their great 11-4 lead at halftime and Astralis took advantage to fight back in a great manner by winning four first rounds and finally by sealing their victory over Fnatic by 19-17. Team FaZe in fact defeated Astralis early on in the competition and it really seemed as their rematch will feature something similar, especially after Fnatic, took a great victory of 17-7 on Inferno which was their opening semifinal match against Team Liquid.
However, just like Astralis, Team Liquid rolled around in a grandiose way by completing dominating on Mirage and on Cache by taking victory by 16-1 and 16-4 respectively. This meant that Team Liquid and Astralis met in the Grand Finals and Danish powerhouse took home that amazing $100,000 prize as the first placed team followed by Team Liquid, Fnatic as the third places and FaZe Clan as the fourth placed.
Astralis Obliterating Team Liquid by 3-0 Victory
With Astralis defeating Team Liquid by 3-0 in the Grand Finals, this CS: GO Championship has concluded. With this latest victory, Astralis became the highest flier as the team won seven big titles during 2018. Their Gran Finals opponent, the American Team Liquid also has put an amazing fight, but in the end, Astralis was the one with a greater determination to go home as the ultimate winner.
